Open source is all about people, about communities. Yet too many open source projects can best be described as “single company projects”, where almost all of the contributors work for one company and often very little interaction happens with the rest of the world.

So why do these projects fail to attract diverse communities? And what can you do if your project falls into that category and you’d like to change your approach and get more people involved? We’ll touch on many of the usual questions, from licenses, CLAs and DCO, issue trackers, feedback loops, all the way to release frequency and response times. We’ll talk about ways to ensure the community is heard, encouraged, brought in. And especially about ways to ensure that the community owns the project and not a single company.
